We’re half-way through our Christmas match funding appeal and, together, we have already raised over £14,000 of our goal of £25,000 to support Syrian communities at this critical moment.
But, your support is still urgently needed to help us reach our target and bring essential medical care and education to Syrian families as they rebuild. Until Monday 8 Dec, your donation to Action Syria will be matched – making twice the impact for Syrian families.
We know that your kindness is making a real difference for displaced Syrian children. In Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, we’ve worked alongside our incredible local partner, SAWA for Development and Aid, for eight years – to provide education for Syrian refugees at SAWA school. SAWA’s unwavering commitment to their community inspires us daily. And, without this school, many of the children – like Mohammad, Saly, and Laila – wouldn’t be able to access the education they need and deserve.
For 13-year-old Mohammad, the school bus he travels on every day is a vital service that enables him to attend school safely and access the education he needs for a brighter future. On the bus, Mohammad laughs, talks and enjoys time with his friends away from the classroom – just like all children should. Without the bus, Mohammad might have to drop out of school and work, but with your support, we can keep the bus running, ensuring that Mohammad, and the 80 other children who take the bus each day, can keep learning.
10-year-old Laila was displaced from Syria with her family during the 14-year conflict. She has been attending SAWA’s school for six years, along with all of her siblings, and there she has received the teaching, psychosocial support and encouragement from her teachers to help her grow and learn confidently. When we asked her Laila about the future, she said:
And, at SAWA school, 12-year-old Saly is showing that young girls have the power to lead and excel, after she led her team in building a successful robot during a robotics program. Saly is a beacon of possibility for every girl daring to dream big and is a shining example of what hard work can achieve, even in difficult circumstances.
Each of these children’s stories reminds us why supporting Syrian communities matters. Because behind every project and every number, is a person whose life has changed because of your support.
We are so proud that Mohammad, Laila and Saly are now learning again, in a safe and supportive environment, along with their classmates. But, the need remains immense and Syrian children still need your support to access the education they deserve. Over 2 million children are still out of school in Syria, and at least 7000 schools were destroyed or damaged because of the conflict.
This week only, your gift to Action Syria will be doubled. Together, we can take stronger action to make sure that more children – like Mohammad, Laila and Saly – have access to the education they need, as they imagine brighter futures beyond conflict and displacement.

*Match funding runs until 8 December 2025. Donations up to £25,000 will be matched.
