This Ramadan marks a historic moment for Syria. It is the first since Assad fell at the end of 2024.
Over the years, we have seen remarkable images of iftar gatherings taking place in war-torn towns and cities, with families coming together in moments of peace amidst destruction. Even in the darkest times, Syrians have upheld this centuries-old tradition, bringing colour, companionship, and resilience to their communities.
As Syrians begin to shape a new nation, the humanitarian crisis remains severe. An estimated 90% of people in Syria live in poverty, and millions remain internally displaced. Many have lost their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. In this challenging time, ensuring that families have access to hot meals during Ramadan is more than just providing food—it is about sustaining hope and a sense of normality.
Ramadan Appeal: 3,000 meals for families in need
Action Syria is partnering with SAWA for Development and Aid to deliver 3,000 iftar meals—1,500 in Syria and 1,500 in Lebanon—for families facing severe economic hardship. Our goal is to raise £40,000 to fund a community kitchen, which will mean families can break their fast with a nutritious, home-cooked meal.
Your support will make a difference
Each meal will include rice, chicken, vegetables, laban ayran, dates, and sfiha—offering balanced nutrition for a fasting family of five. Meals will be distributed over 22 days throughout Ramadan.
Why this matters
Ramadan is a time of reflection, generosity, and unity. It is a time when families and communities come together to share meals and support one another. By donating to this appeal, you are not only providing food but also helping provide a space for solidarity between Syrian and Lebanese communities.
Your contribution can make a real difference to the lives of families struggling to put food on the table. Donate today and help us reach our target of £40,000 to provide 3,000 meals this Ramadan.

About SAWA for Development and Aid
SAWA is a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) initially founded in December 2011 as a spontaneous response to the arrival of the first 40 Syrian families displaced from Syria into the North of Lebanon. This initiative then grew to include both local and international activists who worked together, united by their belief in individuals’ right to live in dignity and freedom, and to be active individuals in their communities, wherever they may be. They are one of our long-term partners. We have worked with them since 2019, mostly on education programmes in Lebanon and emergency response in both Lebanon and Syria.
