Hands Up Foundation is now Action Syria

Together, we raised over £24,000 this match funding week!

We are delighted to have raised over £24,000 through our match funding appeal to support Syrian communities with the medical care and education they need. And – with match funding, donations will be doubled, making twice the impact for Syrian communities this winter.

This would not have been possible without your kind and generous support – thank you.

Speaking about the campaign, Action Syria’s Interim CEO, Anas Darkawi, said:

“Thanks to your support throughout the match funding appeal, we can strengthen existing partnerships and build new ones with trusted local partners in Syria and Lebanon, delivering vital education and medical services to Syrian communities as they rebuild their lives. With your help, we can support even more Syrians in 2026. Thank you so very much from all of us at Action Syria.”

The impact of your support – Khaled’s story

We know that this money will make a real difference for Syrian communities, families and children, who are rebuilding and imagining brighter futures beyond conflict and displacement.

During the conflict, over 7,000 schools in Syria were destroyed or damaged, meaning many Syrian children – like 12-year-old Khaled – have grown up without access to the education they need. In rural Damascus, Khaled’s school had become a symbol of neglect. With broken desks, damaged windows and dark classrooms, learning was almost impossible for Khaled, and his grades — and confidence — suffered.

But this summer, alongside our local partner Abjad Initiative – and because of your generous support – we were able to rehabilitate Khaled’s school, restoring access to education for 900 children. Khaled attended a summer learning club for those who had dropped out of school, supporting him to learn with confidence again. Now, Khaled is attending school regularly, and waking up early, excited to put on his school uniform and begin learning.

We are so proud that 900 children at Zamalka Primary School – including Khaled – are learning again, in a safe and supportive environment. The money raised through our match funding week will help us to continue this vital work, ensuring that Syrian families have access to the medical care and education that they need to rebuild with health, opportunity and hope.

From all of us at Action Syria, thank you for your generous support.
