Hands Up Foundation is now Action Syria

How the Action Fund powers real impact

When you give to the Action Fund, you’re backing the engine behind everything we do — fast, flexible funding that keeps programmes running and lets us respond the moment crisis hits. Your support helps us stay ready for what’s next, while continuing to deliver where it matters most.

But the challenges are immense. Syria remains one of the world’s most underfunded humanitarian crises, with over 16 million people still in urgent need of healthcare, education, food, and shelter. Years of conflict, economic collapse, and the 2023 earthquakes have pushed families to the brink.

At the same time, the funding landscape is tougher than ever. While traditional grants play an important role, they’re often limited to specific activities — leaving little space to pivot when priorities shift or crises emerge. And with rising costs and growing competition for funds, it’s harder than ever to fund the critical work that holds everything together.

That’s where the Action Fund comes in. It gives us the flexibility to move quickly, support what matters most, and help our partners address urgent, unexpected needs. It also keeps our UK team working — raising funds, building relationships, and ensuring every part of our mission moves forward.

What it supports?

  • Emergency response – Rapid action when crises hit: earthquakes, conflict, or sudden displacement.
  • Programme delivery – Funding both direct and behind-the-scenes costs like safeguarding, reporting, and monitoring.
  • Core infrastructure – Sustaining our UK team to raise funds, build partnerships, and keep everything running.
  • Innovation – Testing new ideas to grow income, strengthen delivery, and reach more people — then scaling what works.
